Sprinkler System Installation in Eastern Iowa
Most residential installs finished in one day. Hunter parts, mapped zone by zone.
Sprinkler system installation is the design and in-ground installation of a new automatic irrigation system for residential and commercial properties across eastern Iowa.
How much does a sprinkler system cost?
It depends on the yard, which is why we walk it before we quote. The biggest factor is the number of zones. A zone is one valve and the group of heads it runs, and the size and shape of the lot set how many you need. Water pressure at the house matters too, because lower pressure means fewer heads per zone and more zones overall.
Other things that change the price: drip lines for flower beds, long runs to a far corner of the lot, hardscape like driveways and patios the pipe has to go under, and the controller you choose. A Hunter Wi-Fi controller costs more up front than a basic timer but usually saves water from the first season.
We come out, measure, check the pressure, and give you a written number before any work starts. The estimate is free and there's no obligation.
Who a new system is for
Homeowners tired of dragging hoses, new builds putting down sod, and commercial properties that need a lawn kept green without staff watering it. Every system we install is built with Hunter heads and controllers and carries a 1-year warranty that includes the first fall blowout and spring start-up.
How the job goes
How a new installation job goes
Every step below is how this service runs when we do it, no surprises on the invoice.
- 01
On-site walk-through
We come out, measure the yard, note the pressure at your spigot, and determine how many zones your yard requires before we quote a number. Free.
- 02
Zone-by-zone design
Head spacing is planned for full coverage, no dry corners. Drip zones for beds can be added as an extra, priced separately from the lawn zones.
- 03
Trenching & pipe
Trenches are cut with a vibratory plow so the sod goes back down clean, with wire pulled to every valve.
- 04
Controller & valves
Hunter controller wired inside the garage or on the outside of your home, valves buried in boxes flush with the ground.
- 05
Same-day finish
Most residential yards are installed, plumbed, wired, tested, and cleaned up in a single day. We walk you through the controller before we leave.
- 06
First year covered
The first winterization in October and first spring start-up in April are included with the install under the 1-year warranty. Product warranty varies by item.

Common questions about new installation
These are the questions we actually get about this service, not a generic FAQ pasted onto every page.
- Why do sprinkler system prices vary so much?
- Every yard is different. A larger or oddly shaped yard needs more pipe and heads. Lower water pressure can mean more zones. Rocky or clay soil, slopes and driveways or patios to route around all add work.
- Is the estimate free?
- Yes. We measure your yard, check your water pressure and give you a free written estimate before any work begins.
- How long does a sprinkler installation take?
- Most 1/4- to 1/2-acre residential lots take one day. Larger properties, commercial sites and yards with heavy hardscape can take two.
- Will installation tear up my lawn?
- No. We use a vibratory plow that pulls pipe through a narrow slit instead of digging an open trench. About two weeks after the install, you can barely tell where the lines went.
- Can you add drip irrigation for my flower beds?
- Yes. Drip zones for landscaped beds are an option on any design and are priced separately.
- What does the warranty cover?
- Every install comes with a 1-year warranty that includes your first winterization in October and your first spring start-up in April. Individual products also carry their own manufacturer warranties.
- Does a new sprinkler system need a backflow preventer?
- Yes. New systems need a backflow preventer that is tested and reported to the city. We place the device, test it and file the report as part of the install.
